Waiver criteria and requirements
Your alternative health insurance must follow these requirements:
Domestic Student
Plan must be either, A ….
- Marketplace plan:
- If Student is the subscriber- * Must be a plan that is Silver Level or above. Anything below Silver will be denied * Out-of-Pocket Maximum $9,200 or less per person or $18,400/family per policy year * Covers 100% of Preventative Care * Plan must pay a minimum of 80% coinsurance * Plans must provide full medical benefits in the state of Alabama (If your plan only provides emergency or urgent care in the state of Alabama, it will NOT be accepted for a waiver) * Deductible $500 or less per person per policy year, In and Out of Network * Plans must have an effective date on or before 08/16/2026
- If Student is the dependent of plan subscriber on a marketplace plan- all metal levels accepted and will be approved. * Plans must have an effective date on or before 08/16/2026
Or,
- U.S. Group or Employer Plan (dependent or Subscriber) Includes Auburn University Employer plans. Plans must have an effective date on or before 08/16/2026
International Students:
Plan must be either, A…
- U.S. Group or Employer Plan (dependent or subscriber) including Auburn University Employer plans * Plans must have an effective date on or before 08/16/2026
Or,
- U.S. government or Embassy sponsored plan for International students studying in the U.S.
And all international students must have and show proof of the following to receive an approved waiver:
Repatriation expenses in the amount of and no less than $25,000. Medical evacuation of and no less than $50,000, and must be effective the entire school year.
